Caroline and Matthew
Reconnecting Through Sex Therapy
The Challenge
Caroline and Matthew had a joyful start to married life, celebrating their love surrounded by family and friends. But just three years later, they found themselves in a very different place — their once-passionate relationship had lost all intimacy, and their sex life had come to a complete stop.
What Was Going On?
When they began sex therapy with Relationships Plymouth, it quickly became clear that their busy lifestyles were taking a toll.
Matthew, 32, was working 14-hour days as an insurance broker, often heading into the office on weekends. Caroline, 33, was juggling high-pressure shifts as a journalist for a daily newspaper. Both were constantly exhausted, and neither had the time or energy to nurture their relationship.
The Turning Point
Through therapy, they began to see how their demanding schedules — while understandable — had pushed their connection to the side. With the support of our sex therapist, they explored ways to prioritise each other again.
They were encouraged to set aside dedicated time twice a week just for themselves. Along with some guided intimacy exercises to try at home, this helped them gradually rebuild both emotional closeness and physical intimacy.
The Outcome
Over time, spending quality time together became a natural part of their lives again. Their connection deepened, and their relationship began to thrive — both inside and outside the bedroom.
"Counselling offers a safe space to express and explore feelings with someone who can help in a positive and practical way. It has helped me enormously on my journey to deal with anxieties and problems."
